Sac City Rollers Junior Roller Derby

We welcome any skaters aged 10-17. We train girls and boys in proper skating technique, safety, and the rules of Roller Derby. Girls are invited to play on our Junior league team, while boys and girls can learn how to become referees and bout support staff.

Dues are $25 per month, due on the first of each month. After the tenth of the month, a 10% late fee will be added. These dues cover the cost to rent the track for practices, as well as covering the cost of uniform shirts.

Our Junior Derby coaches are more than happy to answer any of your derby-related questions. You can speak with any of us at our practices, or email us.

What to Bring

Please wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily. We perform drills that will test flexibility and skaters will need to be able to move their arms, legs, and hips freely. A pair of shorts or sweatpants and a tee-shirt is all they'll really need.

We will have loaner skates provided by the rink for anyone who does not have their own. Roller Derby is played on Quad-style skates only, so leave those in-line skates at home! We have loaner helmets, wristguards, and knee and elbow pads available, as well. These loaners were donated by members of our Women's teams, so Juniors with small arms, legs, and wrists may find it difficult finding pads that fit well. Foothill Skate Inn sells pads at reasonable prices, and coaches can recommend online and local skate shops where you may purchase equipment. When you arrive, ask a coach or a skater for assistance, and someone will help you find gear that fits and will show your Junior the proper way to put everything on.

BRING A MOUTHGUARD! We cannot stress how important this little piece of gear is to a skater's safety. We do not have any mouthguards to loan out, so it's very important that you bring one with you to practices. You can find them in any Sporting Goods store in the Football aisle. They come in various sizes so check the packaging to make sure the one you choose will provide a good fit. Many brands can be custom-fitted by dipping them into a pot of boiling water and then biting down to leave an impression as the mouthguard cools. We highly recommend this type of mouthguard to those that can't be custom-fitted. It'll cost a few dollars more, but your skater's teeth will be much better protected.

Required Paperwork

Foothill Skate Inn has a general liability waver that must be filled out before a skater can begin practicing with the league, and all skaters must have some form of insurance. USA Roller Sports has a Membership Application that must be filled out, and an annual membership costs $55.

We have a registration form for both parents and Junior skaters to read and fill out that covers our league rules and important medical release and contact information. All skaters should also be familiar with the Women's Flat Track Derby Association's rules (version 2.1).

Is Roller Derby (and the Sac City Rollers) Right for You?

The first thing to remember is that we're here to have fun. We value hard work, a positive attitude, teamwork, and confidence.

No matter what your skill level or experience with sports or roller skating, we have a spot for you in the Sac City Rollers Junior league.
